The battle belongs to you…
How many of us have a consistent battle going on in our minds? It could be as simple as do I put creamer in my coffee or not? While many physical fights are happening every day locally and around the world, even within the place you call home. It seems the fight of the mind overshadows the physical ones. How can you say that TJ, when many people are dying from these physical battles?
Well, let’s consider this, how many of us take prescribed medication to function daily or even hourly? Our mind needs a little help from time to time TJ, okay.
Do we have a coping mechanism to alleviate a stressful situation? Recently I was watching a show in which the main character was redirected by using the action of clicking a pen. This show was interesting this guy in the show was a serial killer and to subdue this unique tendency was a click of a pen. Honestly, I was more impressed by the writers of the show! That is a genius idea. Let’s have this killer tendency almost disappearing by the click of a pen. This is an extreme situation but we know of coping situation and do it whenever we are in a situation we can’t handle. Isn’t this a good thing TJ? It is!
Writing words of encouragement or endearment, I am beautiful, I can handle this situation, I belong here, you are special and the list goes on. We post these words any place we can see them and review them once, twice, or three times a day. These words are helpful and help overcome a period in our lives that can be very challenging. Vision boards… we place pictures of goals and dreams we would like to obtain or complete in the near future, sorta like a visional road map.
Get to the point TJ! Okay whether or not these memories were placed there due to a horrible situation in our past or us creating these small thoughts that end up debilitating our physical movements. I think we can all consider them something we have to fight to not think about or do. Depression comes in various forms, but I think(note I am not a doctor) our mind plays at least 80% part of this messed up disease.
I was diagnosed at age 32 with early-stage breast cancer, this type of diagnosis runs in my family so genetics played a part, agreed. But what is cancer? It is a cell in your body that due to some cell makeup does not behave like the other cells and then it decides to create a family(tumor). My God even on a cellular level no one is by themselves! My point is that even your brain is saying stop that and your cell is saying I am doing whatever I please. So can we say that even our own body fights with our brain?
I mean I honestly can see how easy it can be for someone with depression to be like, okay I will sleep here all day in the dark, not eating, not drinking, and just sleep so your brain can not think. OR drinking until you can’t see straight. There are some other crazy things we do to drown out the BATTLE in our minds, to silence it for just a couple of hours, days, weeks, years. Some resort to unliving themselves, people who bring so much joy and happiness to the world just gone…
We all knew a guy named Jesus died on a cross many years ago but what if I say he didn’t want to do it? Many bible knowing people are probably screaming at me right now. But just hear me out for a bit or you can stop reading whatever works.
If you knew you were going to die a really bad death would you do everything in your power to avoid it? Okay now add this you dying a horrible death on behalf of someone you may never meet? Would you still do it? Even though Jesus knew he was born to be our Superman, he had moments when he was like this is too hard! I don’t want to do it! GUESS WHAT though? HE STILL DID IT! He endured everything that came with him becoming recorded in history as a Savior so that today I can write about this and say that this BATTLE of the minds we go through does not belong to us. It belongs to our Heavenly Father, he decided to undergo crucifixion for us to say yeah I don’t have to deal with it because this is already solved.
The artwork for this article was found on Canva. The title of my article is a song by Phil Wickham. Matthew chapter 26 verses 36-39, NLT: “Then Jesus went with them to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and he said, '‘Sit here while I go over there to pray.” He took Peter and Zebedee’s two sons, James and John, and he became anguished and distressed. He told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying,” My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”
And that’s what the bible says, not TJ
